The CIF has legitimized the caliber of baseball in Diamond Bar by selecting Diamond Bar pitcher Kenny Mathews and Diamond Ranch infielder Roderic Bridgewater to the Division 3 All-CIF teams this week.
The teams were selected by the CIF coaches throughout the Southern Section.
Mathews, who was drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round of Major League Baseball’s June Amateur Draft, was a first team selection. Bridgewater, who will play for Arizona State in the fall, was named to the second team.
A hard-throwing lefthander, Mathews has the choice of signing with the Mets or playing for Cal State Fullerton on scholarship in the fall.
Mathews was 5-4 for the Brahmas with a miniscule 1.24 earned-run average and 80 strikeouts with just seven walks. Diamond Bar finished third in the Hacienda League and lost to Ocean View in a CIF wild card game.
