CLASS OF 2021 GLC NEWS AND NOTES

VOLUME 3  (JUNIOR YEAR) ISSUE #8

March 5, 2020

Class of 2021 Students and Parents,

As we have the past two school years, we will publish this GLC News and Notes Newsletter periodically during the school year.  Our goal is to keep our students and parents up-to-date on relevant and timely topics and issues.

YOU MAY ACCESS PREVIOUS GLC NEWS AND NOTES ON THE DBHS WEBPAGE VIA THE WEBPAGE OF THE CLASS OF 2021.

PARENTS AND CLASS OF 2021 STUDENTS:

PLEASE READ YOUR EMAILS AND TEXT MESSAGE REMINDERS!  THIS IS ISSUE #8 OF THE GLC NEWS AND NOTES NEWSLETTER.  THEY ARE EMAILED TO STUDENT AND PARENT EMAIL ADDRESSES.  DON’T DISCARD THEM-READ THEM!  MANY OF THE QUESTIONS WE RECEIVE FROM STUDENTS AND PARENTS HAVE ANSWERS CONTAINED IN THE GLC NEWS AND NOTES NEWSLETTERS!  ALL PRIOR ISSUES OF THE NEWSLETTER ARE AVAILABLE ON THE CLASS OF 2021 WEBPAGE!  WE WANT YOU TO BE INFORMED!

Remind TEXT-MESSAGE System For PARENTS:

PARENTS-Please sign up for the new REMIND accounts to receive text-message communications directly from your GLC’s. The Class of 2021 had to switch to new accounts because the company, REMIND set new limitations and capped each class at 150 students per class.  If you received these TEXT MESSAGES in the past, you will have to RE-JOIN!

We have made student groups and now we are making parent groups.  If you do sign up for this process, you will receive the same text messages your student will receive.  These messages will become more and more important as we near our senior year!

Please make sure to sign up for the correct group so there is enough room for all who want to participate. Keep in mind, your student has already received information for their message groups.  The information below is for interested parents.  Here are the instructions for how to sign up for the parent groups:

TIME TO SIGN UP/REGISTER FOR YOUR GLC REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT!!

Last week, your student was provided this information with their Senior Course Selection Package.  Each student must log into the Sign Up Genius link to select the date and time to meet with your GLC this summer.  GLC Registration meetings are mandatory and this year the appointments will be held from July 6-July 31, 2020.  PLEASE READ BELOW:

On Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:00 pm an invitation from SIGN UP GENIUS will be sent to your student’s (School Gmail) account.  This is an invitation to register ONLINE for your GLC meeting.  This invitation and “window” to register will be open starting Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:00 pm and the invitation will close on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 8:00 am. This is a first-come first serve “time-sensitive” process.  The sooner you register online, the more appointment dates and times you will have available from which to choose.  KEEP IN MIND-When your appointment with your GLC occurs has no affect on the senior-course schedule your student receives.  All student schedules are made during the month of June!  So if your appointment is on the first day of GLC meetings or on the last day of GLC meetings it makes no difference.  Familes should select a date and time which allows for the parent and the student to be in attendance at the GLC meeting.

Does your Class of 2021 student have a younger sibling who will also be attending DBHS during the 2020-2021 school year?  If yes, your Class of 2021 student is responsible for securing a GLC appointment for the younger sibling.  We provide this service so parents of multiple DBHS students are able to attend registration one day for all of their DBHS students.  If your Class of 2021 student does not follow these directions, then parents may have to go through the registration process on two separate days.  Class of 2021 students, after selecting their registration date and time, will attend “in person” a lunchtime registration process on either Monday, March 9th or Tuesday, March 10th.  The Class of 2021 student should go to the upper Quad area near the Main Office and work with our staff to secure their younger sibling’s appointment.  The Class of 2021 student simply needs to let our staff know his or her name, Student ID#, GLC Name, and the date and time of their GLC appointment.  Staff will secure an appointment for the younger sibling with the younger sibling’s GLC on the same day as the Class of 2021 student’s appointment.

The registration process from July 6-31, 2020 prepares your student for their senior year.

SELECTING SENIOR COURSES:

Your Class of 2021 student received senior-course registration materials last week.  Course registration Cards are due next week, March 9-13.  Your student knows the specific due date.  PLEASE take time to review these materials with your student.  We want students to select a demanding and balanced senior class schedule!  Both parent and student must sign the Course Registration Card prior to turning it in to their GLC.  Registration materials and a Power Point presentation are available on the Class of 2021 Webpage!  Look for FILES starting with SENIOR COURSE REGISTRATION…

Think About It…Keep these things in mind as you navigate the waters of raising your teenager…

On the lighter side…

“The scariest thing about raising teenagers is remembering the stupid things you did when you were a teenager”

On the practical side…

Raising a teenager is hard!  But, being a teenager is hard too, which is why our teenagers need someone they trust to lean on, to come to for advice, and to share their lives-the good, the bad and the ugly.  Having a front-row seat in our kids’ lives is a far better place to be than sitting on the top row of the bleachers.

Knowing he or she is loved makes all the difference to a high schooler’s self esteem, academic success and happiness!
