Senior GLC Reminders - Feb 23

February 23, 2021

REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS ETC…

Greetings Class of 2021 Students and Parents,

Financial Aid/CAL GRANT INFORMATION

As you are all aware, the priority DEADLINE to submit your FAFSA-Free Application for Federal Student Aid is quickly approaching, March 2, 2021.

We thought we would provide you with this helpful information about CAL GRANTS.  The link below is informative for advising students what steps must be followed to secure a CAL GRANT if the student qualifies for one of the CAL GRANTS.  Students do not have to figure out which CAL GRANT that they may qualify for in this process.  Once the student’s FAFSA is processed, the student will be notified if he/she qualifies for a CAL GRANT and it will specify what CAL GRANT is being awarded.  If you are notified that you will receive a CAL GRANT then you need to set up an account via Web Grants. See the link below for steps on the CAL GRANT Awarding Process:

REMINDERS:

  • FAFSA Deadline is March 2, 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • DBHS has already submitted CAL GRANT GPAs for all of our senior students.  This submission was done in early October.  If you were a student at DBHS in September, then your GPA was submitted.
  • If you are being told that your GPA is not in the system, then most likely there is an issue with the information from your FAFSA not matching up with the information submitted by DBHS.  If you are experiencing this issue, please contact our GLC Secretary, Mrs. Jolina McCurry.  Mrs. McCurry will be able to assist you.  Most of the time it is as simple as addresses not matching etc. and Mrs. McCurry would be able to help repair the issue.  Jolina McCurry:  jmccurry@wvusd.org
  • CAL GRANTS are awarded to qualified students attending a California college in the CAL GRANT system.  https://www.csac.ca.gov/post/cal-grant-eligible-school-list-0

FAFSA-Free Application for Federal Student Aid:

Your FAFSA is due by the priority deadline of March 2, 2021.

If you have not completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid--FAFSA, the priority deadline to submit is Tuesday, March 2, 2021.  If you are attending any college institution in the fall, you should submit the FAFSA.  You may qualify for some form of student aid regardless of family income.

(Some Cal Grants are based on GPA).  See 2 links below...
