Come to here a presentation from a representative from each system with an opportunity to ask questions.


Colleges want the SAT in October or November in order to receive them in time to include them in your file. They will take the December test, but, you should pay the extra and rush them. Remember, the UC requires both the SAT I (Reasoning) and the SAT II (Subject). If you have any questions see your GLC.


Letters of recommendation Your GLC’s and teachers will be writing many letters of recommendation. For those who need them for the private schools, got to www.dbhs.org,glc,c;ass pf 2011 and open up the “senior profile” file and complete. In addition, read the link relating to private applications for a step-by-step procedure. The sooner you get your reques in, the more time they will have in wiring you an outstanding letter. The ABSOLUTE deadline is October 29th, but you should get them in as soon as possible.


Scholarships are always posted outside of Mr. Ozaki’s office in D building, in the Career Center and in the Guidance Office.


Scholarship Applications are available in Mr. Ozaki’s office and in the Career Center. Many of the scholarships have you download the application straight from the internet.  


Adult School  If you are behind on credits or missing a requirements for graduation and need to attend Adult School or the MSAC High School for make ups see your GLC as soon as possible.



This section will be for highlighting the CLASS OF 2011  student achievements.  Please let Mr. Goode, Mrs. Burns or Mrs. Taylor in the Guidance Office know if you have won a scholarship, an award or any other honor. We’d like to share your accomplishment with your classmates and teachers.



Dare to Dream Scholarship

Two scholarships are being sponsored by Comcast. This is a very open competition that invites creativity. They want you to communicate how you will change the world. It canbe through an essay, video, audio, artwork, etc. The entry form is a DreamersChallenge.org. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. Deadline is October 15th.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

This award is to recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional citizenship through exemplary, self-initiated community service/ volunteer work.  Examples might be working with the disabled or with the elderly.  The activity must be either self initiated or the individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership in group activities. Only one student may be nominated from DBHS. $1,000. Go on line to www.prudential.com/spirit . Print out the application and turn it in to Mr. Ozaki by October 22nd.

QuestBridge College Match Scholarships

QuestBridge is a National college Match program which assists outstanding low-income students in gaining admission and full four-year scholarships to leading colleges such at MIT, Princeton, Stnaford and Yale. Last year 1,000 QuestBridge applicants gained admission to our partner colleges. 268 of these students received full scholarships to the college of their choice, including your Senior President Jonathan Lui. For information go to www.questbridge.org. Scholarship includes the full cost of tuition up to $40,000 and the full cost of room and board up to $15,000. Deadline is September 30th.


Wendy’s High School Heisman Award

This awards student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Must have a 3.0 GPA and be participating in at least one high school sport. Apply online at www.wendysheisman.com. After you have finished your application you have to have your GLC check it and sign off on it. The first 41,000 applicants will receive Wendy’s Gift Certificates worth $5 to $50. State Winners receive $1,000. Deadline is October 1st.


Oh, the Places You’ll Go! College Scholarship

This college scholarship recognizes a senior who understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer. This sounds like an essay is involved, but it doesn’t state. $5,000. Deadline is February 15th
