Softball in CIF Playoffs; Baseball Earns Wild Card Game

The Diamond Bar High School baseball team will host Ocean View High Tuesday in a CIF Division 3 wild card game of the 2011 CIF Southern Section Baseball Championships.

Pairings for all divisions in softball and baseball were announced Monday afternoon at the CIF-Southern Section offices in Los Alamitos. Wild card games begin Tuesday, with first round games starting Thursday. Teams playing in wild card games are competing for a spot in first-round action.

In all, 289 teams in total qualified for the seven divisional single-elimination baseball tournaments. For softball, 284 teams spanning seven divisions made it to the playoffs.

The Brahmas (15-11) are the third-place team from the Hacienda League, while Huntington Beach Ocean View (16-10) finished third in the Golden West League.

Hacienda League champion Bonita High is the top seeded team in Division 3 baseball.

The Division 3 finals are scheduled for Thursday, June 2 at Dodger Stadium.

In the CIF Division 2 softball playoffs, Diamond Bar will host Colton in a first-round matchup Thursday at Diamond Bar High School.  All Division 2 first round games will be played on Thursday, with all CIF divisional finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4.

The Brahmas (15-9) are the second-place team in the Hacienda League, while Colton (20-5) finished second in the San Andreas League. Don Lugo High of Chino is the top seeded team in Division 2 softball.
