Non-Pupil Days; School Calendar Update

January 23, 2014

Dear Parents,

This letter is a reminder that the 2013-2014 School Calendar, and the 2014-2015 school year, each contain four (4) non-pupil furlough days. These days were approved by the Calendar Committee, which is comprised of parents, teachers, classified staff, and administrators.

Special state funding for Common Core State Standards Professional Development, allows us to explore the aforementioned days as possible non-pupil Staff Development days.  We appreciate the state’s willingness to allocate this targeted funding to provide Professional Development for our educators as we implement the new state curriculum.

As you receive this letter, employee associations and District administration are planning for possible employees’ Professional Development on these days. Please keep in mind that student achievement and a world class education are our driving forces for making decisions.

As a reminder, for the 2013-2014 school year, the four (4) non-pupil days are:

                                February 18, 2014

                                March 28, 2014

                                April 18, 2014

                                May 23, 2014.

For the 2014-2015 school year, the four (4) non-pupil days are yet to be determined by the Calendar Committee, which will be shared with you as soon as possible.

We appreciate your partnership and support of our schools and staff. We want to re-assure you that every member of our staff, is diligently working to provide a 21st Century education to your children. The implementation of the California Common Core State Standards will help us reach new heights in our already high performing school district.
