Congratulations to DBHS Math teacher DENA LORDI who has renewed her National Board Certification. She is only one of seven teachers in the Walnut Valley Unified School District who currently hold this certification. About 91,000 (3%) of the teachers in our country hold this certification.
The renewal is a 10-year renewal of her initial certification, which occurred in 2008 and was also for 10 years. National Board Certification is a voluntary, rigorous certification process that recognizes accomplished teaching and the achievement of national teaching standards. National Board Certification also promotes continuous improvement of teaching practice for individuals and for schools.
The renewal process includes identifying, analyzing, and reflecting on four professional experiences, how those experiences have affected her professional development, and, most importantly, how they affect student learning in her classroom. This process also included planning, executing, and videotaping lessons, as well as analyzing student work. Her students last year were very helpful with this.
Ms. Lordi’s certification is in Mathematics/Adolescence and Young Adulthood.
We appreciated the extra effort and time Ms. Lordi takes to be the best educator possible for our students. She currently teachers Algebra II/Trigonometry Honors and an International Baccalaureate course titled Theory of Knowledge.
