WEEK 3 – August 27 – August 31
Hello Brahma Parents and Guardians,
The third week of school includes important activities relevant for all students, staff, and parents. To begin the week, we have our first Late Start, on Tuesday, August 28. On Late Start days, staff have the opportunity to collaborate with each other and enhance our instructional program through data analysis, sharing best practices, and working to support all students. First period begins at 9:30 am, and students have shortened class periods.
Secondly, we have our first evacuation drill of the year on Tuesday, and our first lock-down drill on Friday. In our drills, students learn and practice the routes they would use in the event of an emergency, and how to respond in case we need to lock all the doors and gates to secure the campus. We will do four drills this semester with one in September and one more in October. Special thanks to Assistant Principal David Hong for coordinating our safety drills, and helping us be as prepared as possible for unexpected challenges.
Thirdly, I am looking forward to meeting with all parents Tuesday evening, August 28 @ 7pm to discuss the incident during our Branding Iron Football Game that occurred on Friday, August 17. We will meet in the Gym at 7pm to reflect on what we learned from the incident, and our steps moving forward to keep our students and campus safe. In order to make sure we have enough space, please click HERE to RSVP your attendance.
Fourthly, this Thursday is Back-To-School Night (BTSN). I am so excited for you to meet our teachers, and I hope you can make it to campus onThursday, August 30 at 6:30pm. We will begin BTSN in the Gym as a large group (parents and teachers), and our classroom visitations will begin at 7pm. Please make sure you have your son or daughter’s class schedule to follow their daily routine. Also, if you need help with Parent Portal, be sure and visit the LINC to see our Technology Coordinator Randy Thomas for support with this valuable parent resource. Thanks to Instructional DeanJulie Galindo for coordinating all of our BTSN activities!
Finally, this Thursday, August 30 is Undergraduate Picture Day. Undergrad Pictures will be taken from 7am – 3pm in the Gym. Please stop by and see Mrs. Cathy Norys in USB if you need an order form.
