DBHS's TWO MOCK TRIAL TEAMS ARE IN LA COUNTY'S TOP 24!
This MOCK TRIAL season started with 96 high school teams competing in LA County, two of the 96 from DBHS. There are now 24 undefeated teams, two of them are from DBHS. Wednesday, November 13, both teams faced worthy competitors and came out on top.
So many students had great moments. Here are just a few highlights:
ON DBHS’s TEAM A
Austin Kim is a pretrial attorney. He has a casual, convincing delivery and impressive vocabulary.
Sophomore Emily Chen plays the defendant. She puts on a very strong witness performance.
Sophomore Crystal Tsao, first year team member, objected like a professional and was awarded team MVP by the opposing team.
On DBHS’s Team B
Junior Ryan Luo gave a law class on objections.
Senior Patrick Ma gave a closing that earned him the highest marks awarded by any of our 26 DBHS team members.
Senior Hamzah Daud, playing a linguistic expert, was unflappable and awarded MVP by the opposing team.
It was a big relief to our coaches, Latitia Thomas and Margaret Ku, that both teams earned the chance to move on in the competition. Their next round, Top 24, will be Monday, November 26. It will be the first time that the two teams may be forced to face each other.
