The website, Actively Learn, will be used in order to provide enrichment opportunities for students to garner more knowledge regarding current events and other topics of information for use in argumentative and synthesis essay writing.

Topical podcasts will be incorporated for the same purpose as Actively Learn: to give students opportunity to expand their knowledge base and to hear examples of synthesis and argumentative presentation. (Ex. Week 1-Freakonomics: Should Kids Pay Back Their Parents for Raising Them? (Ep. 223))

Students encouraged to read every day, on their own, works of fiction/nonfiction in order to expand upon ability to incorporate evidence while composing essays.

Theory of Knowledge students should see the Google Classroom for several assignments that provide the opportunity for them to review, practice, and enrich their TOK skills.  This includes several examples of real-life situations to analyze for knowledge issues related to the Ways of Knowing. Students will also find instructional materials that encourage students to practice questioning how we know the world around us within the Areas of Knowledge Art and Ethics.  Additionally, students should continue to check the Google Classroom for updates and additional examples of RLS from current events. Students will have the opportunity to practice identifying their own RLS by posting examples in a shared folder.

Take Care and Stay Healthy,

Mr. Galeener

Practice daily self care, whether that is through exercise, meditation, or mindfulness. It is important that you take care of yourself during these stressful, uncharted times.

I know we are supposed to isolate and avoid physical interaction, but that doesn't mean we cannot connect with our social groups in other ways. Keep in contact with friends and family electronically. Make phone calls, facetime or message. Keep in touch. It is important we don't lose these connections. Be the one to reach out.

First and foremost: be safe, cautious, and take care of yourselves! I know things changed very quickly and it might be difficult to understand right now, but this will pass. Practice zones of regulation at home (big problem, little problem, size of your reaction). Remember, if you feel overwhelmed, practice the same coping skills at home that you would at school: take a break, distract yourself, find a quiet spot, listen to music, anything that helps you. Wishing you and your family the best and I’ll see you guys soon <3

As burgeoning artists, we have this latent need to compare and contrast our abilities with individuals already established in and outside of the industry. Yet we fail to realize that we are all one and the same whether it be an odd process, insecurity, fear, and outright joy. Feel free to utilize some of these documentaries examples for personal reflection and insight not only into your craft but others.

There are boundless resources for education in and outside of the classroom. These YouTube channels are some of the best to promote interest and resources in the arts. Pick three insights that you would like to share in the classroom the next time we meet.

You don't need boundless pieces of expensive equipment to make a movie. It helps but sometimes ingenuity and creativity is key. If you're adventurous and have a low budget then use these resources to make your next film.
